2000 BC.. Datça

2000 BC.. Datça

The Datça peninsula, surrounded by the Aegean Sea on the north side, warmed by the Mediterranean on the south side, and bordered by the Gulf of Gökova.

The furthest point of Turkey. It is closest to the Greek islands.

History;

The Datça peninsula is a corner of heaven, founded in 2000 BC.

This beautiful paradise was first discovered by the Carians and later settled by the Dorians, and the center of the 6 cities they founded, including the neighboring islands, was chosen as Knidos, which is on the Datça peninsula.

Knidos was first established in the Burgaz area, 2km north-east of İskele District, the current city centre of Datça.

The city, which developed and prospered in the 7th and 6th centuries BC, passed from the Lydian state to Persian rule in 546 BC.

In the 4th century BC, for commercial reasons, the city of Knidos was moved to Tekir Cape, the farthest part of the peninsula where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet.

This ancient city was under the rule of Alexander the Great in the 3rd century BC, and the Roman Empire in the 2nd century AD, and when the Roman Empire split into two, it passed into the hands of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire.

The city was largely destroyed by major earthquakes and Arab invasions in the 7th century AD and was abandoned.

The Menteşeoğulları Principality included the Datça peninsula in its territory. After the last two centuries, the region became part of the Ottoman lands and 5 centuries later it became a part of the Republic of Turkey.

Although the name Datça was changed to Reşadiye in 1909 during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mehmet V (Sultan Reşad), it became Datça again during the Republic of Turkey period.

You pass through Marmaris, the pearl of Muğla province, to reach this corner of heaven. You pass through the winding mountain roads of the Aegean, through oxygen-rich pine forests. You pass Balıkaşıran Pass and reach the farthest point of Turkey, where the sun sets most beautifully.

The peninsula, with its villages, bays and every corner of heaven, starts with Emecik village. It continues as Kızlan, Reşadiye, Hızırşah. Old Datça and Datça; is the central point. Karaköy, Mesudiye, Sındı Village, Palamutbükü, Yakaköy, Cumalı, Çeşme Village, Belen Village, Yazı Village and the ancient city of Knidos at the far end are located on the peninsula.

Let’s leave Hotel Mavi Beyaz and visit villages together next time. 🙂
