Imagine a city; an ancient city that is thousands of years old. A city embraced by blue, where you can leave yourself to the unique seas of either the Aegean or the Mediterranean from its historical port, when you are sweltering from the heat and walk along its marble streets. Knidos, a historical and cultural treasure hidden in the heart of the Datça Peninsula, has been intertwined with science, architecture and art throughout history. The famous mathematician, physicist, architect and legislator Eudoksus, the famous painter Playgnotes, doctor Euryplon, and Sostrostos, the architect of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the 7 wonders of the world, lived here. The famous sculptor Praxiteles carved the world-famous statue of Aphrodite here in the 4th century BC. Doctor Euryphon, one of the most important scientists of the period, and his students founded the second largest medical school of the time in Knidos.
You can witness the traces of Knidos’ pioneering in science and art, which the historian Strabon likened to a theatre rising from the shore towards the acropolis, by visiting parts of the city such as the Stoa, City Walls, Small Theatre and the Sanctuary of Apollon Karneios.
